How to Cure a Yeast Infection


Yeast is commonly present on normal human skin, and especially in areas that have moisture. These areas include the mouth and the vagina in women.

Vaginal Yeast Infection

This infection presents itself in two ways: when new yeast is introduced into the vaginal area or when the quantity of yeast increases in the vagina relative to the quantity of normal bacteria. Vaginal yeast infection can occur also when there is an injury to the inner vagina. Additionally women who have suppressed immune systems can develop vaginal yeast infections much more than women who have normal immunity. Vaginal yeast infections can also occur in women who have diabetes mellitus, those who take oral contraceptives and pregnant women. Many women don’t realize that uses douches or perfumed vaginal hygiene sprays can also increase their risks of developing a vaginal yeast infection.

Curing a Vaginal Yeast Infection

There are many natural ways or home remedies that many women have used over the years to cure vaginal yeast infection. Plain unsweetened yogurt is good bacteria and this helps to fight yeast. The yogurt can be applied on the outer sections of the vagina or be inserted directly using a tampon. It is important that the yogurt is not left on for a prolonged period as the longer it stays on the itchier it will get because of the added moisture.

  1. Garlic is also a good cure for yeast infection. This done by inserting a clove of garlic into the vagina every two to three hours or as needed, this is guaranteed to provide soothing relief.
  2. Drinking water is another excellent way to cure yeast infections. Doctors recommend six to eight glasses per day and what this does is to flush the sugars that feed the yeast in the body. It is equally important that whatever water is consumed is free from toxins.

It is important also, that while curing a yeast infection that the following be avoided as best as possible:

  • Douching – this creates an imbalance with the good bacteria in the vagina.
  • Wearing tight fitted clothing especially in the crotch area will create the perfectly warm environment for yeast to grow. Similarly, wearing a wet bath suit for prolonged periods will also create a warm environment for the yeast to grow. Also, wearing pantyhose is prohibited as this is grounds for yeast to grow.
  • Birth control and antibiotics can also weaken the immune system and make it easier for yeast to penetrate the body.

Mouth Yeast Infection

This type of infection, also commonly called thrush is most often found in babies and infants but adults too can get mouth yeast infection. Mouth yeast infection can be cause by a myriad of things but it is mostly found in people who have asthmatic conditions.

Treating a Mouth Yeast Infection

As long as a person has a strong immune system, curing them of yeast infection of the mouth is much easier than if the person is sickly. Doctors prescribe specific medications to treat the affected mouth and normally the treatment should take roughly thirteen days to be cured. The prescribed medicine can be taken in various forms and the doctor will determine the best one for the cure.

Prevent a Recurrence

Drinking lots of cool fluid will help to soothe and cool the mouth and it is important to rinse the mouth with warm saltwater to help with curing the condition. Sugars generally prolong yeast infections, thus it is important to stay away from sugars and complex carbohydrates.

It is also important to brush the teeth at least twice per day and floss as recommended by the dentist. Mouthwashes and mouth sprays can do more harm than good thus it is best to avoid using them.
